PhD @ Katholieke Universiteit Leuven
In recent years, I have also been active as board member of two non-for profit organization (i.e. Culture en Samenleven Dilbeek vzw and Sport en Gezondheid Dilbeek vzw). Together with the other directors, I funded these two firms, wrote the articles of association and defined the vision and mission. Given my financial background, I have been leading a working group whose mandate is to optimize the financial processes and internal controls. As both organizations will be acquired by the municipal town of Dilbeek, not having a board of directors, my mandates end at the end of 2020.

Besides my profession at the FSMA, I am a guest professor at the KU Leuven and an affiliated researcher at the Université Saint-Louis in Brussels. In 2019, I taught the course ‘capital investment policy’, were I taught international students how to value companies, minimize conflicts of interest, assess financial risks, evaluate investment projects, and build financial portfolios. In this course, I also make the link with other business disciplines like corporate strategy, corporate governance, and ethics. I stimulate students to make use of the available financial resources and databases to implement the material in practice (e.g. estimation of betas, constructing Markowitz portfolio’s, and estimating Vasicek term structure models). I have observed that an excellent manner to encourage curiosity, enthusiasm and a critical mindset is when students can apply what they learned to practical examples. Since May 2020, this course is available online (https://www.udemy.com/course/corporate-investment-management). Teaching an international group of students has made me aware of the diverse needs, backgrounds, and interests of a culturally diverse group. Besides teaching, I mentored students with writing research in the area of private equity and mutual funds. These students have been involved in my own research programme, which increased their motivation considerably. I have published regularly in legal and economic journals (e.g. Journal of Financial Regulation and Compliance, European Business Review, Financial Innovation, etc.) and presented my research at various international conferences in Chicago, Toronto, Shanghai, Atlanta, Houston, Nottingham, Istanbul, Madrid, Paris, and London.
