uses 2-4 main ideas (points) that support your overall essay thesis
allows you to expand on your chosen topic
This essay assignment represents the first steps in writing any written essay for any academic course. The idea of thesis and support are the cornerstones of all essays. They represent the last part of the writing process. However, you may still revise your essay before final submission. This form of essay writing is the basis for all other academic writing pursuits. This skill translates to almost all careers that require critical thinking, critical reading, and responding in writing. Practicing "how to" write an essay carries over into any field's task of "what" you need to write. This skill will help with all formal writing.
Task
Write a 900-word essay, in MLA format, about a person or fictional character in whom you have an interest.
Select a subject (person or fictional character you admire)
Look to your Discussion (D1) and Writing Activity 2 (WA2) for your subject
The person may be current or historical
Some fictional characters have positive traits that can be identified.
Select several (2-4) traits about the person or character that you admire and write about these. These will be the essay's main ideas.
Biographical information should be used only to support claims.
Your essay should focus on the traits you admire. Do not write a biography or tell a story.
Example of what not to do: This person was born in 1979. They were born in middle Tennessee. They went to elementary school is 1985. They graduated in 1998.
Instead, follow this example: This person was born in middle Tennessee. Entering elementary in school in 1985 was hard for them. They never felt that they belonged in kindergarten. However, they persevered, learning that school was a place for them to grow and be themselves.
Focus on the "why" you admire them instead of a list of traits. In the above example, perseverance and learning to be themselves are the traits the writer of the essay admires.
Organize your main ideas to establish the essay's pattern of organization.
Your main ideas (traits you have chosen) need to be clearly organized.
Decide in what order you wish to discuss these main ideas (traits)
This organization needs to be presented in your introduction, preferably as the last sentence of your introduction in the thesis statement.
Note: your thesis is generally the last sentence in your introduction, but it not a requirement.
Follow this structure throughout the rest of the essay.
Always check to see if your main ideas/topic sentences, in each paragraph, relate back to your thesis statement.
Compose 5 well-developed paragraphs that support a clear thesis statement that is arguable.

Each paragraph contains one of your chosen admirable traits about your subject
expressed in a topic sentence in your paragraph
Each trait needs to transition to the next one in the next paragraph

This essay is a basic form of an argument essay. The essay should make an argument such as that the person or character selected is worthy of admiration because of the traits selected.
Criteria for Success
A successful essay:
Meets basic requirements of the assignment
Has been written by the student submitting the essay, for this class, and for this semester,
Does not contain plagiarism of any kind
Academic dishonesty is an offense of the NSCC Student Code of Conduct, punishable by a failing grade or zero
Has a clear thesis, main ideas, and pattern of organization
Has been carefully edited and proofread to minimize grammatical and other editing errors
These can be remedied by editing and with Writing Tutor visits and peer reviewing
Follows MLA style and guidelines (spacing, indent, margins, etc. )

The questions:
1.) Choose two somatosensory receptors. Please include a description of each receptor, what they sense, and which part of the brain processes the information from the receptor.
2.) Provide a discussion of the thyroid gland. Include the following:
Description of the thyroid gland's structure and location.
Description of the cells of the thyroid gland.
Description of the hormones secreted by the thyroid gland and their functions.
Description of how thyroid hormones are controlled by hormones secreted by the hypothalamus and anterior pituitary gland.
Description of how the feedback system works in the cases of high or low thyroid hormone levels.
3. Describe the cardiac cycle. Include descriptions of the 3 phases, the pressure changes in each of the heart's chambers, valves are open and closed, and blood flows during each step.
My answer: 1.) Exteroceptor - receives external stimuli from outside of the body. An example, the skin (Thermoreceptors) detects the temperature of the outside area of the body.
Interceptor - receives stimuli from inside of the body. An example would be blood pressure as well as blood oxygen levels.
2.) Thyroid Gland is located near the front lower part of the neck, beneath Adam's apple. Its structure includes Thyroid Epithelial that form follicles filled with colloid - a protein-rich reservoir of the materials needed for thyroid hormone production. The cells are responsible for releasing hormones that control metabolism (Energy levels). The thyroid gland releases triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4). These hormones regulate weight, energy levels, internal temperature, skin, and growth. When the hypothalamus and pituitary function well, they can detect when hormone levels are low, which causes them to produce more TRH and TSH, which stimulates the thyroid to produce hormones. When the hormone levels exceed their limit, they then have less TRH and TSH, which results in reduced hormone production by the thyroid. Feedback is when a product feeds back into its initial cycle. The Feedback includes both positive and negative feedback. Positive Feedback is when a product provides back to increase production: an example, milk production by a mother for her baby. As the baby suckles, nerve messages from the nipple cause the pituitary gland to secrete prolactin. Prolactin, in turn, stimulates the mammary glands to produce milk, so the baby suckles more. Which causes more prolactin to be secreted and more milk to is made. Negative Feedback is when a product feeds back decreases production; it brings down show if they increase past their limit. It also controls insulin secretion by the pancreas.
3.) The Cardiac Cycle takes place from the beginning of a heartbeat to the next. It contains two periods: One is when the heart muscle relaxes and refills with blood, called diastole, following a time when it begins contraction and pumping of blood, systole. Once emptied, the heart then relaxes and expands to receive another inrush of blood coming back from the lungs and other areas of the body. The atrioventricular valves remain open while the semilunar valves are closed. During the middle part of the diastole, a small amount of blood flows into the ventricles. The blood flows from the veins and passes the atria fills the ventricles. The pressure in both ventricles is close to zero as a result.

The problem :
What are the chances of a 4 sided die landing on 1 twice and on 2 twice out of 4 rolls. The solution I came up with originally was (2/4) x (2/4) x (2/4) x (2/4) . Which I realized was wrong as this allowed the die to land on 1 four times in a row. So then I came up with this soultion (which i still think is wrong) (2/4) x (2/4) x (1/4) x (1/4) . So the reasoning behind this is : The first roll obviously has a 50% chance to roll on either 1 or 2. Second roll is the same. BUT, lets say both of them land on 1, and now it HAS to land on 2 the remaining two times. So my problem is with the current solution that I have is what if the die lands on 1 on the first roll, then on two for the second one. then the third roll would still have a 2/4 AKA a 50% chance of landing on either one. I'm sure the last roll is 1/4 but I just dont know if the order matters on the rolls. This has been driving me crazy the last hour. Please help if you can thanks

Every relationship has its own importance. Marriage is a relationship, based on love or compromise, in which male and female interact and spend their life together. According to research, love and arranged marriage go hand-in-hand. Both are on the average scale because marriage has simply become part of business; however in modern era, the ratio of love marriage is increasing. Love marriages are considered superior because of understanding that both persons have for each other before marrying.
In love marriage, couples have mutual understanding. Despite facing numerous problems such as convincing parents to accept their choices and warding off false accusations and comments; however, these challenges guide them to happy life. In arranged marriages, both partners are unknown to each other and start their lives according to their parents' guidance. These couples don't make their own choices, but accept their parent’s demands. This leads to apathy for needs and feelings of their partner, which leads to weak bond between them.
In love marriages, couples always demonstrate respect to their partner's family members. They make many compromises to not hurt their partners; however, they still are able to speak frankly and openly. In arranged marriages, partners tend to speak with hesitation and tend to consider their own needs before those of their partner or partner's family.
In married life, couples should know what their partner prefer. This can only happen if the couple knows each other well before marrying. In arranged marriages, partners feel hesitation to share their feelings, likes, and dislikes; however, in love marriage partners already have an understanding of their partner's needs and just need to respect them and create a bond with their partner's family members. They care for each other's feelings and respect their boundaries.
In conclusion, arranged marriages are guided by parents whereas love marriages allow a couple the freedom to assess the future complexities that may arise in their lives. Love marriages contain mutual understanding that allows couples to solve their issues practically rather than emotionally. In a successful relationship, considering other person's feelings is a priority, which is commonly found in love marriages.

I have calculated the new water demand which has to be used to determine the size of the pipes, though I am not completely sure if I did that right. I have a lot of information which I have compiled into a one drive file that I can share. I am able to help provide any information that is necessary since I am familiar with what the files contain. I have attached a document which explains everything that I need to do. I am able to use the existing network for the most part so routing of it should be easy. The part I am unsure about is determining the size of the pipes. For the water, I believe I can use mannings equation. For wastewater, I am unsure. For stormwater, I am to use the rational method and I have an excel tool which makes that easy for someone who knows what they are doing. Please help ASAP. I have to be done with this before tuesday afternoon. I am in central time zone(11:20pm right now).

Good evening Joseph,
Your forum post this week sparked my interest because of your two debatable topics. Your week 5 topic of "Should churches be taxed or exempted", will be an interesting read. As a person who grew up in the church and seeing what it offers, I am for churches being tax exempt. The money saved from taxes in the end helps the community.
Your second debatable really stuck a cord with me. I hate how reliant we as a society we have become on our cell phones. I use mine a lot, but have being trying for a few months now to be less reliant on it. Kids are at school to learn, not be on their cell phones. The teachers should be teaching and paying attention to the students and not on their cell phones. I am curious, when you say banned, so you mean not even on school property, or just not allowed to be used during school hours? My 13 year old son takes his cell phone to school in his back pack, but we have talked to him about when he can use it. It's mainly for after school activities, so he can let us know when he needs to be picked up.

I have been sober from methamphetamine for more than a year. I would admit if I relapsed, especially since I already knew I was going to get violated for the DUI. She said she sent in my UA and 3 days later got the results back and they were positive (I have not seen the “results”). Is there somewhere I can find scientific proof that these drug tests, especially the instant panel tests, are not fool proof? Especially since I am prescribed non-time release Adderall, Wellbutrin, and gabapentin. That there is also plenty of other things that can interfere/mess with these tests? Can you please recommend any text books, websites, and/or science journals that would help me prove this?

I think the first step to getting this done is looking at the writing prompt and my essay and confirming which things I have already addressed sufficiently and which things are missing or incomplete.
Level of detail/clarity, flow, and transitions would probably be the second step. "Level of detail" is where I can hopefully shorten some parts while still sufficiently addressing what I need to.
But if you think a different approach or order is good, please let me know.

I don't understand how recursions are supposed to be used with this and how to call a previous tree function. Below are additional instructions my teacher gave me.

The branch length should decrease as the function calls itself. This does NOT mean you decrease a variable, it means that just like fib(n-1) or fib(n-2) you decrease the parameter as you pass it to the next copy.
----Your slider is the STARTING value, the parameter can be changed every time your function is called.
Have the branch decay by multiplying by 0.85 before passing it to the next recursive call.
-When this works, try making the branch decay a slider from 0.1 to 0.9 in increments of 0.01
