I have been tutoring and teaching for nearly 9 years now. My academic areas are: English (grammar, writing, essays, college essays), Standardized Tests (SAT, ACT, SSAT, ISEE, COOP), History, Web Development, study skills/ organization, Algebra & Pre-Algebra, and general science. I have worked with a wide age range, from 4th grade through high school seniors.
I have extensive experience tutoring all kinds of students in various subject areas. Over the years I have developed strategies, compiled materials, and crafted approaches that address the unique needs of each individual student (including work with ESL, LD, and physically disabled students). I tailor each lesson to fit the student, changing my demeanor, approach, and materials appropriately. I mainly do one-on-one lessons but have run 2-week-long classes and am currently managing a class of special needs children of various ages and aptitudes.
When I am not teaching or tutoring, I am playing music. I've played guitar for almost 14 years; the instrument and songwriting are essential parts of who I am. I also love to read, anything from literature to nonfiction to graphic novels.
Geometry: Most students get overwhelmed by the seemingly endless number of proofs and theorems they must learn in geometry. I strip away the redundant and confusing concepts and make sure to draw connections between core ideas.
Web Development: I am a self-taught web developer, so when teaching programming languages, I integrate the successes and trials from my learning experience. I was drawn to the work by it's intersection between technology and language. I have built 3 websites on my own and a handful of web applications.
Essay: As a writer and teacher, I know the frustration and struggles associated with writing a paper. One strategy I use is to concretely explain all the elements of an essay (thesis, introduction, body paragraphs, purpose, tone, etc.) so that students don't just succeed with one essay, but are better equipped to tackle all future writing.
Editing: Having studied writing in school, I know that editing is not only the most essential but also one of the more difficult steps in crafting a piece of writing. I help my students by taking what they have written and guiding them through organization, structure, and finally refinement.
Admission Essay: I have helped several students brainstorm, draft, and edit college application essays. It's a matter of finding the student's story and bringing it to life.
Polish: Polish was my first language. I speak it at home and have a solid understanding of what some have considered one of the more difficult languages.
Your Score: 34
I was able to solve all my problems and enjoys the learning. Thank You!
