As a graduate of San Francisco State University with a B.A. (Summa Cum Laude, '93) and a Master of Arts ('95) in English/Creative Writing, I am experienced in editing, proofreading, critiquing papers and more. I've tutored 4th graders at Las Positas Elementary School, Livermore; served as a writing project mentor at Natomas Charter School, Sacramento; judged a poetry contest in Alameda, CA; and tutored in ESL for several Wyzant.com students: high schoolers, middle schoolers (in reading, writing, history, and grammar), and adults. I've also taught music for several years. I can also help with speaking and pronunciation as I am an experienced public speaker, performing publicly at poetry readings all over the Bay Area reading from my award-winning book and other publications. I was also a public speaker on behalf of Wells Fargo Bank's diversity programs for many years before I retired. I won my employer's Diversity Champion award.
After high school, Dave Holt began setting his poems to music. This led to a reenactment of the well-known songwriter fable, moving from Toronto, Ontario, to California to seek recognition. He and his wife Chappell now collaborate on composing, recording, and performance. After a full time music adventure, he followed the muse of story-telling and poetry to San Francisco State University’s Creative Writing program (B.A. ‘93, M.A. ‘95). His poetry has been published in several journals such as Spillway and Raven Chronicles. He won the Thomas Merton’s Poetry of the Sacred prize; is a two time winner of the Maggie H. Meyer Memorial Contest, 2011/2013; an Ina Coolbrith prize for Nature poem, and was featured in the 9th Annual Berkeley Poetry Festival, 2011. His essay American Indian Poets and the Mixed Blood Experience appeared in Raven Chronicles, of Seattle, WA. His book, Voyages to Ancestral Islands, won a Cultural Literary Award from Artists Embassy International (San Francisco), and is in part the story of reuniting with his Ojibwe Canadian Indian ancestors of West Bay (M’Chigeeng) First Nation Reserve. Recently (2016) he was published in Red Indian Road West, an anthology of Native American Poetry from California.
Essay: I have tutored in basic chemistry, biology, physics for middle school students.
Coursework: I have critiqued, edited, proofread, and generally evaluated essays for middle school and high school students.
Editing: As my resume will show, I have made speeches in support of Wells Fargo's Diversity programs and I have performed my poems in many poetry venues.
The teacher could be able to stimulate my interest in the subject.
